Last but not least, there's a fix for the key frame designation for video tracks in MP4 DASH files, MKVToolNix can now be successfully compiled under OpenBSD systems, and a crash related to certain types of invalid MKV files has been addressed in the mkvmerge, mkvextract, and mkvinfo tools.

In addition to the numerous new features implemented in the MKVToolNix GUI component, MKVToolNix 8.0.0 also brings dozens of improvements to the mkvmerge tool, such as better support for detecting codecs of MP2 audio streams from MPEG files, and a patch for a crash in the Base 64 decoder. Moreover, MKVToolNix GUI sees the addition of a new option in Preferences that allows users to disable additional lossless compression for all track types, better display of pending jobs, the addition of new features to the watch jobs tool, support for maximizing several dialogs, support for selecting and copying the text of all message box dialogs, as well as countless bug fixes. The MKVToolNix GUI (Graphical User Interface) received most of the attention in this release, including better detection of the mkvmerge binary on Linux and OS X, improvements to the chapter editor and merge tool, job output and queue enhancements, and the addition of several new features to the merge tool and the Header & Chapter editor. The software suite includes both command-line and graphical utilities for splitting and joining Matroska (MKV) files, extracting audio and video streams, and much more.

As the name might imply, MKVtools is a graphical interface for a variety of tools useful for processing video files. If you are looking to convert videos to either MP4 or AVI videos, then you should try either MP4tools or AVItools.
MKVTOOLNIX MAC OS X MAC OS X
It will not, however, create MP4 or AVI files. Basically a bunch of libraries are missing under Mac OS X - it's a preety reasonable guess that 'JonThn' made the assumption that all Mac users have something called. This is a new and improved version of the application which will focus on what the original version was not very good at - the creation and editing of MKV files. For users of the original MVtools (i.e., MKVtools 2), the naming convention could be a bit confusing. MKVtools is the part of the VIDEOtoolbox Suite of applications used for the creation and editing of MKV videos.
